Vivo launches the new smartphone V7 Plus in India on 7th Sep. This Phone incorporates facial recognition technologies and solutions by Face++, and becomes the first Chinese-made smartphone that carries complete facial recognition to perform unlocking feature called Face Access. While this is a milestone to biometrics and human recognition technologies, Face++ also prospects that face unlocking will become a standard and mainstream feature on future smartphones, due to its upgraded safety and more convenience than fingerprint unlocking nowadays.
Vivo and Face++ are the leading companies in their industry respectively. The two companies started their strategic cooperation in mid-2017, working together on face unlocking, camera optimization, photo classification, and photo optimization. Within less than 3 months, the two companies have made it possible to build the first smartphone with complete face unlocking feature.

Megvii (Face++) is the leading AI company on facial recognition globally. In Fin-tech, transportation and new retail industries in China, Megvii has a high coverage around 80%. Face++ cognitive service, as an open platform, now processes over 30 million request per day, and 40% of the users are from outside of China, all over 200 countries.
This cooperation provides a safer and more convenient experience to smartphone unlocking. The whole process of the recognition can be performed within a few milliseconds. It is equipped with a finance-level security model, which is able to filter out photo, video, and mask spoofing attacks against the system. The technology can also recognize human face to different racial groups within standard accuracy. Due to these characteristics of the technology, Face++ is making more strategic cooperation in other scenarios. One of the recent cases is the mobile-payment access in KFC, China, in which Face++ is offering a solution that users can use their face to become the only ID to make mobile payments.
Wu WenHao, VP of Megvii, stated that Face++ will keep the strategic cooperation with Vivo in the future, and will aim at mobile face recognition solutions with finance-level security. Meanwhile, Face++ is building a visual solution set based on AI, exclusive to smartphones, in order to provide solutions on image intensification, camera improvement and AI video/image processing for demands from different smartphone companies. Wu also said that Megvii academy has launched the new learning engine for mobile devices, called ShuffleNet, we are now able to accelerate the integration of mobile end and our algorithms.
